Every word is a new adventure. That spirit was strongly felt during English lessons at SD Kanisius Murukan 02 on Monday, 9 February 2026. The classrooms were lively, filled with laughter, and full of students bravely trying new things. The smart board was not just a teaching tool; it became a medium that brought learning to life for Grade 1, 2, and 3 students in an interactive and enjoyable way.

The Grade 1 students learned about pet animals. Through interactive pictures and videos, they were introduced to various pets such as cats, dogs, fish, birds, and rabbits. The children enthusiastically repeated the vocabulary, sang a song about animals together, and played matching games by connecting pictures to the correct animal names on the smart board. Cheers, applause, and laughter made the classroom atmosphere even more exciting.

Meanwhile, the Grade 2 students studied describing family members. With colourful family illustrations displayed on the smart board, they learned words like father, mother, brother, sister, and grandmother. They also practised making simple sentences such as “My mother is kind” and “My father is tall.” Songs and group activities made the lesson feel warm, fun, and engaging.

Then, the Grade 3 students explored prepositions of place such as in, on, under, and next to in the context of school locations like the classroom, library, canteen, and principal’s office. Through short stories and interactive games that involved finding the position of objects, students were able to understand the concepts in a concrete and enjoyable way. Without even realising it, they were learning while playing with growing confidence.

Reflection

The joy of learning was also reflected in the students’ personal experiences. Nuella, one of the students, shared that she enjoyed English class even more than day because of the smart board. “I like English more now because we use a big screen that we can touch. It’s much more fun,” she said excitedly.

A similar change was seen in Arya, a student who is usually quiet and absorbed in his own world. During the lesson, he showed a different kind of enthusiasm. He focused on the screen, repeated the words aloud, and smiled proudly when he answered questions correctly. Simply and honestly, he said, “I like learning with the big screen.”

These simple yet meaningful moments show that the right learning approach can reach every child’s unique character and help build their confidence. The lively and joyful classroom environment is also supported by the school principal, who continuously encourages teachers to innovate. 

This interactive learning experience proves that when strong leadership support and teacher creativity work together, classrooms become a vibrant space filled with meaningful learning. Innovation is no longer just an idea. It is truly present in everyday teaching.

English is no longer seen as a stressful subject but as an enjoyable learning experience that builds courage, confidence, and readiness for children to face the wider world.
